What is a chapter book? A chapter book is a book long enough to be split into chapters, yet not long enough to be a novel.  Chapter books are often illustrated, but not nearly as much as picture books.

What ages are chapter books appropriate for? Chapter books are popular with 7-10 year-olds as transitional books between beginning reader books and novels.  Chapter books also tend to appeal to reluctant readers of all ages.  Some children younger than 7 who are advancing with their reading skills would likely enjoy chapter books as well.
